Today we say thank you and farewell to Angus Flett, Chief Executive Officer of DCC for almost 8 years.

Angus joined the DCC in 2017, a year after the go-live of the smart metering network in Great Britain, and before the installation of interoperable, second-generation smart meters had kicked off.

At the time of Angus’s joining, DCC had yet to hit its stride or establish itself as a crucial part of the energy landscape.

However, in the years since, with Angus at the helm, we’ve surpassed numerous milestones and achieved some truly impressive results.

We’ve built the largest single communications network in Britain, reaching 99.3% of British homes and small businesses. We’ve connected over 32 million smart meters and 80 million devices, to our highly secure network, achieving excellent levels of operational performance, which have often exceeded targets.  We’ve put households in control of their energy usage, enabling them to access flexible tariffs which lower bills and reduce carbon emissions.

Alongside the achievements of the last 8 years, DCC has also matured as a company. We are a values-driven organisation that strives to make a difference. This is demonstrated by our recent success in the 2024 Inspiring Workplaces Award in the UK and Ireland, where we were placed seventh in the Top 50 inspiring workplaces in the UK and Ireland.

Angus has always been a keen advocate for decarbonisation and the role that DCC can play, and is already playing, in helping the UK reach its ambitious climate goals.

Like all our DCC colleagues, Angus truly believes in our purpose – to make Britain more connected so we can all lead smarter, greener lives.

Commenting on Angus’s decision to step down, DCC Chair Richard McCarthy said:

“Under Angus’ leadership the DCC has delivered Britain’s smart meter network. This first of its kind infrastructure is now playing a critical role at the heart of the energy system helping to keep bills down, protect British energy security and decarbonise our energy system. I want to thank Angus for his significant contribution and legacy.”

We’d all like to say a huge thank you to Angus for his vision, commitment, leadership, and service to DCC, and we wish him all the best for the future.
