Earlier this month, over 40 representatives from leading energy suppliers, device manufactures and DCC Users, convened for the first Testing Services for Customers event at Brabazon House, the home of the smart meter network.

The event, hosted by DCC’s Testing Services team, brought together industry experts to showcase the latest advancements of the current and future testing services, such as  DCC Boxed and HAN emulators.

Presenting to industry stakeholders at our testing services day

Attendees praised the forward-looking testing services roadmap and the focus on practical applications. Kathryn Hubbard, Test Manager at ESG Global, noted:

“The event has been useful and really enjoyable. It’s given me the opportunity to see what DCC is about – they provide a lot more services than I realise.

It also gives me a better insight of where we could take our testing to the next phase. We primarily support our customers with their metering, and we often have to deal with triaging issues that come along.”

“We’ve found that DCC can help us with providing and setting up different types of meters so that we can run different types of test scenarios, so that’s been really helpful for us.”

Likewise, Renoop Puthukudy, Senior Smart Metering Test Manager at Octopus Energy, commended DCC Boxed for being “impressive”.

Martin Bell, Technical Manager at Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA), was particularly impressed by the available support for hydrogen use cases: “One of the things that we’re interested in, as an organisation, is hydrogen. We’re interested to engage with the DCC on hydrogen specification for gas meters in the future.

We’ve found the event really interesting, and we’ve made some good contacts, which is useful for networking.”

Likewise, several participants on the day highlighted the networking opportunities as a valued benefit. Johan Balt, Engineering VP at GEO, reflected: “I’ve been to visit DCC at Brabazon House a few times but it's the first time that I've been able to meet peers from other parts of the industry in addition to some of the DCC team.”

As the event concluded, many attendees expressed enthusiasm for the next Testing Services event. With the rapid pace of technological change in the energy sector, events like these play a crucial role in helping suppliers and manufacturers maintain safe, efficient and reliable devices.
